Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026

Your entries stay on your phone. No account. No cloud sync to our servers. No sharing. We use anonymous usage analytics to see if people are opening the app — and that's it.

What stays on your device

Everything you type into Calorie Runway — your calorie entries, notes, daily targets, and settings — is stored locally in a SQLite database on your phone. We do not have a server that holds this data. We cannot see it, read it, or recover it for you.

What we don't collect

What we do collect (anonymous analytics)

To find out whether anyone is actually using the app, we use PostHog, an analytics service. PostHog records anonymous, app-level events — not what you type into the app. Specifically:

PostHog does not receive your calorie totals, entry notes, meal descriptions, targets, weight, or any other content you create in the app. If we ever change this, we will update this page and the version number of the app.

You can read PostHog's own privacy policy at posthog.com/privacy.

Why we collect anything at all

Calorie Runway is a small independent app. Before building more features, we need to know whether anyone is actually using the ones that exist. Anonymous analytics answers one question — "are people opening this?" — without touching the data that matters to you.

Optional iCloud backup (iOS)

On iOS, Calorie Runway can back up your local database to your own iCloud account. This uses Apple's CloudKit — the data goes directly between your phone and your iCloud, governed by Apple's privacy policy. We never see, store, or process this backup. You can disable iCloud backup in the app's Settings screen.

No ads, no trackers, no SDKs that sell data

Calorie Runway contains no advertising, no ad SDKs, no tracking pixels, and no third-party code that monetizes your data. PostHog (described above) is the only third-party service the app communicates with, and it only receives the events listed above.

Children's privacy

Calorie Runway is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, there are no special steps we need to take for children specifically.

Data deletion

Because your entries are stored only on your device, you can delete all of your data at any time by deleting the app from your phone. If you also want your anonymous analytics events removed from PostHog, email us at the address below — note that analytics events are never tied to your identity, so deletion is best-effort.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in any meaningful way, we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be announced in the app's release notes.

Summary

Your entries stay on your phone. Optional iCloud backup uses your own account, not ours. Anonymous analytics tells us whether people are opening the app. Nothing else.
